About

The Mindex (the mind expanded) is a space to capture some of the interesting ideas I come across, as well as explore what I think, in public. Here, I attempt to capture my perennial effort to learn, create, connect and reconstruct.

Living in this age of information overwhelm necessitates a system of cognitive offloading. One can’t remember it all, nor should you try to. As Schopenhauer said, to attempt to remember everything you have ever read is the same as wishing to retain in your stomach everything you have ever eaten. I suppose this is how ideas like the Commonplace book and the Memex arose.

In naming this site, I ruthlessly borrowed from the Memex portmanteau (memory expanded). It later occurred to me that in my situation, the ex could denote expander” or expanding, both of which feel apt. The site helps me learn, hence it’s a sort of expander of my thinking. As this is an ongoing process, it could also be said that my mind is expanding.

Mainly, The Mindex” was an easy and memorable two-worded URL - and we know how difficult it can be to come up with these now, as most are already in use. Suffice it to say that this is a space for thinking out loud, in public, as I attempt to piece it all together. Welcome. I hope that you find something useful or enjoyable in the readings, musings, jottings, scribbles and miscellanea.

This site is created using Blot.im. I use Blot’s out of the box Blog template.

I write in Markdown on Obsidian and Blot conveniently converts the Markdown files into HTML and CSS. My sincere gratitude to John Gruber and Aaron Swartz for Markdown. I use it every day.

Obsidian is currently my favourite Markdown editor / note-taking app. I also dabble in Typora on occasion, which comes in as strong second favourite. Simplenote gets an honourable mention, I used it to type on my phone for a long time.
